about
TORRANEE RMX is inspired by a song Toranee Kansaeng [The Weeping Earth], which was first composed by Phra Chenduriyang it began as a song for mourning ceremonies as a part of a funeral rite in Thailand. Later It was transformed into different versions such as a เพลงลูกกรุง [Luk Krung music style] sung by Manthana Morakul and Sai-Yor [LowYourKnee] Dance Remix style version spread across social media platforms and it became a meme soundtrack for a TikTok video as well as a song for protest mourning to the corruptive political system in Thailand under authoritarian dictatorship regime and to invoking society to question the origins of systemic injustice in Thailand. This song became a medium for people to unite and express feelings as well as to celebrate new hopes and new forms of solidarity.
For this track, I did a remix on a song Toranee Kansaeng [The Weeping Earth] by blending various audio sources materials from Thai traditional instruments [Khong wong, Ranat], contemporary pop trends SFX samples, overload hardcore drum, synthetic trance motifs, Thai Soap Operas sound fragment and other found material online shatter it all together into ash of data, abstracting it as well as juxtaposing with a speech from a protester. Reanimates different sound sources into a web of material, it is a condensation of time and threshold of memory engraving into a form of sonic assemblage.
TORRANEE RMX [ธรณีกรรเเสงรีมิกซ์]—a first beta version single for this year. This track is part of my upcoming project EP "MEMORY THRESHOLD: HAUNTOLOGY FUTURE OF LOST MEMORY"
